FILM PHOTOGRAPHY: BYRON BAY

Byron Bay, the place I found comfort in. I wasn’t even sure if i’d actually make it here, everyone who had been to Byron Bay told me that I would love it and wouldn’t want to leave. I didn’t believe them but here we are, me telling the tale of how I lived in this laid back coastal town for 10 months.

Lisa and I arrived in Byron in hope to stay at The Arts Factory, after a weekend of camping at Belongil Fields the Arts Factory finally had space for us to pitch the tent there. I lasted there for two/three weeks up until I saw a red belly snake in the grass near the pond, that was the last straw for me. I then moved to Surf House hostel, the location was perfect to my two jobs and right near the beach. Around Christmas time the hostels were getting really busy and they were about to kick out long term stayers because of the people booking holidays around Christmas so I started to look for a room to rent. I was so lucky! I found this place that was only a 10 minute walk in to town and to work, it was perfect. It was bright and cosy just what I needed and the housemates were lovely, you’d mostly hear This Must Be The Place - Talking Heads playing in the background, a song all three of us loved. I felt so comfortable living here, it was also next to my favourite shop/cafe Bay Grocer!

Byron Bay gave me a whole bunch of new friends, from all over the world. I truly adore them all, and will never forget how they made my time here so fun.

Bangalow, a quaint town not too far from Byron. We brunched at Woods, which was great! I’m still sad I didn’t make it to Ciao Mate for dinner though.

I enjoyed walks in Byron, sometimes alone but mostly with company. Living between some beautiful beaches has been a blessing. Living somewhere where you don’t need a car and everything is on your door step is also a blessing. I will miss you beautiful blue Byron.
